51 8ba fuel pump woes

rebuild kit came in today...

and i did decide to replace the valves as testing proved in conclusive.

one was easily punched out from behind using a rachet wrench extension. not so, the other one. with it, i ended up drilling it out and prying. insertion was done with a proper sized socket on an extension and a few sharp blows.

i did notice that the old valves did not have gaskets...don't know it that's significant or not, but as i might have mentioned previously. the pump was working well before it got clogged with debris from the tank. will be installing tomorrow.

The valves I pulled out did not have gaskets but the new ones came with them so I put them in. I also used a 14mm socket to set the new ones in.

Jeez guys, 38 bucks@ Rock Auto. No need to over complicate the simple

The last rock auto fuel pump I bought for an IH truck was defective right out of the box. Valve problem. Ended up going electric.
I've got a big box of old Ford fuel pumps I bought at an auction over 50 years ago that I might get around to rebuilding some day. Currently still running the original Ford pump that was on the 52 Mercury in the late 1960s. Its a miracle it has lasted this long without any problems.
