I have a 51-7006 in my 1938 1 tonner, I'm having problems finding info on this trans. I'm sure it's not the original because it lacks the serial # on it. Where can I find info and parts? Thanks in advance.

If you purchase a reproduced copy of the 1928/48 Ford Chassis Parts and Accessories Catalogue (Green Bible) from one of the early Ford parts vendors, it has a breakdown of parts but it uses the latest part numbers available and may not have earlier part numbers that might exist in there. For example, they don't even have the 51-7006 number in there. The case they show was a replacement P/N 59T-7006 and it can be used on any 4-speed truck from 1932 to 1947. Some of these transmissions even ended up in the later 48 thru 50 trucks. They are straight cut gear types which were pretty standard cog boxes for the early V8 trucks

For truck stuff you have to dig around for parts. Outfits like Joblot and Antique Auto Supply have a lot of NOS stuff and may have parts. Mac VanPelt does a lot of early Ford transmission work plus his parts sales business so he may be able to help. It's still out there but it will take some work to find it.

the basic gears in his 4 speed are the same from '32 up to '52 (last year for that trans). The mainshaft (output shaft) did change in '40 when the trans went to open driveshaft. Bearings were the same all years. We have most of the parts in stock including the gaskets. We also sell a repair book for it (dated 1947 so it will be focused on the open drive version, but same basic teardown and assembly procedures).

Thanks for the info, I've been on your website a number of times for tech info. I'll have to check out your parts dept.
