Owen - that's pretty far north of you. Does your radar extend that far out? Stu

No, but at the time 11-12 years ago, they were just outside of town apparently at his friend's. The owner of the property was glad to see them go. Must have worn out his welcome. I know they went to WA because I went to look and they were gone. The property owner said they went north to WA. I did talk to the owner by phone when they were here. It seems he wanted 1200 or so. Too much for that rusted high mileage hulk. As it turns out, I'm very glad I didn't buy it.

I called and had a good conversation with Jeff. Nice guy, and has had M-Hs for a lot of years. His trucks are the ones that were in your area, Owen. From his description his F-3 is complete and titled. He would want more than I'd want to pay, but not out of reason. So at minimum he's gonna share his M-H data with me for the Registry that Mark Mossell is compiling. He's also gonna share the axle number to help us know how many were converted in a model year. Like most F-3s we've come across, his truck is a 1952. Stu

I'd suggest keeping in mind that Chuck is a one man shop, and handles calls, emails, and repairs/restorations himself. I've visited him a couple times and seen the pace of his day. He even put me to work helping with shipping and copying of a M-H manual for a guy. So I wouldn't be offended if he doesn't reply to a general email. If you need parts or specific technical info, though, you won't find a better resource. He's got more M-H info in his head than the rest of us combined. So, a phone call couldn't hurt if you've got specific questions or need pieces.

To post pics you'll probably want to set yourself up a Photobucket, Flicker, or similar picture hosting account then link that site to here. It's really not hard if I could figure it out. Stu

Here's pics of Jeff's truck. Doesn't look bad at all to this "rust belt" person. Way better than I'd expected, but I guess pics might not show all there is to see. Anyway, it's too nice to part out I think. Hope Jeff finds it a good home. Stu

Josh - If I'd have brought the trailer behind the motorhome it might have been loaded heading home. But wouldn't be getting emptied in SLC. Stu

That '47 has attitude (and altitude) written all over it! Dick Cutting's '41 got me wanting one just like it, and yours. Great find!

Was wondering if Jeff's 51/52 Marmon Herrington F5 (posted by truckdog62563) is still together...or was parted out. Interested in complete truck. Ken

I've not heard status of Jeff's truck. When I talked to him he was wanting to restore it, but was also thinking of selling it. That's going on a year now, isn't it? I did add a '51 F-3 M-H to the fleet last month. It's a real p.o.s., but it's got a complete M-H drive train. It's unusual too because it's the R3-4 model that has the single speed transfer case. Before coming across this one, everything I'd seen written said that the '48 to '50s had the single speed case, and the '51/'52 was the two speed R32-4. This truck proves that M-H continued the old model into '51 and probably sold it side-by-side with the two speed case model. Stu

Come to find out my M-H is a 42. Just got it on the road a couple weeks ago. Just half assed painted it for now. I have another cab in much better shape to restore for it. Heres a recent pic.

Stu, did you look for a frame serial number, on that single speed? I wonder with the different color door and all, if the whole body got swapped from an earlier '48-50?

No, the frame number, cowl tag, glovebox door tag, and title all match. It's a '51. The title says it's a '52, but that's no doubt simply because it got sold in '52 and was titled that way. As you might expect I've shared a few pictures and swapped emails with Chuck about it. It's interesting because the transfer case mounting is different than earlier R3-4s he's seen and owned. He'd never seen one mounted like this. Also, the truck has 12" rear drums and parking brake at the transmission like the late year '51 2wd trucks had. This makes it look like MH sold the single speed model side-by-side with the two speed model for much of '51, even though none of the MH literature mentions it. Adding to the confusion, it has the early style cowl tag and glove box tag design, and a fairly low VIN sequence (13899) suggesting it's an early truck, but has the late rear brake and parking brake set up that says it was built after these changes were intro'd.

I've gotten the cobbed together flat bed off now and hauled to the recycler. Much easier to deal with now minus almost 800 lbs. of "C" channel and "I" beams. Plus will finish pulling the dog house today. Most of that goes to China too. Another thing that say's it's a '51 is the '51 style Magic Air heater with it's upright heater core tubes and air intake set up. Stu
