How many positions does a 50 model ignition switch have? Just got the car. Have been putting the key in. Straight up and down. Turn it to the right and push the button to start. Yesterday it wouldn't turn to the right to start. I guess the ignition switch has went bad. It has been comvert d to 12v. Should I just get a whole new switch tumbler and all.
I got a three pole switch from Auto Zone but I don't think it is going to work. Think my best bet is trying to get one like the original. Thanks for any information. I need it.

6A-11572-B is the part number for the switch. They are being reproduced. I have two NOS ones I'd sell for $50 each including shipping. You should be able to reuse the lock/key assembly. Not sure that's the problem though...

I am leary of the lock. I believe I am going to order a new switch housing , tumbler and benzel from Dennis Carpenter. Looks like the cylinder for the switch is 8A-11582-9. Think I will wait Monday and talk to them to make sure that's right. Appreciate the offer and advice.

Maybe try some lubricant or penetrant in the lock before taking it apart. If the key is worn maybe try pulling it out or push it in a little and jiggle it ……..Mark

Ordered a new switch and tumbler yesterday. Hope I can be back on the road by this weekend.
Going to replace the universal joints also. Haven't done that in a long time. Last time was probably twenty five years ago.
