50 Ford sedan door seals, which way?

Hi I purchased a full set of door seals, for my 4dr, from Dennis Carpenter.
They came in a big plastic bag, all together, with no markings.

The seals on my car are original 75 yrs old and mostly congealed, dried up, and without any original shape or features.

My problem is trying to figure where and how each rubber goes into position.

The front doors for example are diff left to right, they have a change in profile at the front where they transition down from the window surround to the main body of the door.
This is not plain to me which side is which.

Does any one know where I can find photo instructions on how to fit these rubbers.
Better still would anyone be able and kind enough to take photos for me of correctly fitted door seals for a 4dr?

Thanks Geoff

Geoff, all seals, whether for oil, weather, or whatever, are installed with the pointed leading edge facing toward the element you wish to seal, so that pressure from that source causes the seal to become tighter.

Thanks Alan that will help me figure out the seals that go on the rear doors it is the front doors that are giving me a problem.

I can make the profiles all sit the right way, it is the transition of profile that is the problem on the front doors. There is a “ L or R twist “ where they transition down from the window frame, it will be go the opposite direction for each side. It is not plain to me which side is which.

The same with the lower front doors.
The lower rubbers as they come do not have the shape of where they will finally fit and will need to be twisted into place.

Thanks Geoff

I took photos and I think I answered my own question.

Photo 1 I think is correct

Photo 2 looks all wrong and I can't get close to shutting the door.

Now I have to "nut out" the under door rubber.

It almost an impossible job to remove the old rubbers without damaging the original black paint.

Unfortunately I will have to do some touch ups.
Most hidden by the seal rubbers though.

Thanks Geoff

I don't have good access to the w/s right now, winter here, but here is a shot with the door open as far as it goes in the garage.

Hi Joe, thanks that is perfect, it confirms what I needed to know, my photo 1 is the correct way to fit it.
I am still cleaning off the old dried up rubber in places where it is really hard to get at without damaging the paint too much.

Then there are only three more doors to go.

I have a 50 Coupe, on a ship, which is only about two days out of Auckland port.
It has a complete set off all seal rubbers, that are available for the car, that will need fitting.

That will be fun.

Geoff
