Seat on driver side has sunk over the years. I looked under the seat. I don't see anything broke. Can you buy replacement springs and is it something I can replace.
Many people just add layer of foam to the top to bring it back up. I sit on a 2" thick closed cell foam kneeling pad in my '47 chevy as the springs have compressed so much I have trouble seeing the front of the car/road ahead. Adds a bit of comfort too. If I had good upholstery I'd remove a few hog rings and slide it underneath.
Thanks for the reply. We do have a old upholstery shop here I have had some work done years ago. I may go talk to them.
I had thought about just using a pad also.

I have rolled up carpet padding and inserted it in the individual springs. Makes the seat feel "brand new".
Roll it up tight, twist it in the coil and it will then expand.
Bullerman, padding as you'd suggested, won't do too much good as you will still be applying your weight to the tired springs.
Most trim folks stuff a good bit of padding into the coils on the outside edges due to the wear from entry and exit. The coils there take a beating. There are clips available that take a special tool to crimp into place. They hold the coils to the heavy wires that form the spring box. Hog rings can be used to hold a coil to the one next to it. Coils are available in different lengths and end diameters but matching spring rates might be difficult.
Ford went to zig-zag springs in the 1950/51 time frame so coil springs in specific spring rates and sizes aren't as common as they used to be. Albright's Supply is a good place to get them. Uphostery Connection is another. They have stuff to tie them like they did back in the feather bed days.
I have the same problem in both my 50 Ford Customs.
I have a roll of that zig-zag spring around somewhere that I used to repair a Ford Fairmont front seat, many years ago.
Are there any images or photos or what ever available that shows how Ford constructed the later sedan seats?
Joe, thanks, that seems to be as I remembered except for the doubling of the spring for the center section of the span.
It looks, though, like a quite complicated assembly of the springs to support the front edge of the seat.
