I'm going to have the engine rebuilt in my 50 Ford convt. I plan on putting in a 4" SCAT crank. The shop that is going to do the rebuild uses Eagle Performance. Can anybody give some pro's and cons about Eagle compared to SCAT.

Thank you,

Pat

Whatever you use make sure your rotating assembly is ballanced including the flywheel and pressure plate.

Hi Pat, the Eagle crank is all we use here, but under no circumstances let them use the Eagle rods, they will NOT fit without some heavy grinding on the block. Sometimes enough to go through into the water.

Use ONLY the Scat rods, with the 4.000" arm they will definitely fit with no grinding! They even go with the 4.250". (See the photo below showing a comparison)

Thanks, Gary in N.Y.

P.S. Just a tip, but I would not use the "standard" Merc stroke, take it up a notch. The 4.250" with the Scat rods (Pontiac/Buick rod brgs) and the 3.312" Ross pistons w/the metric ring pack and you'll have a "nice" ride!! On a side note, put in bronze guides, avoid headaches in the future!!
