50/50 Acetone and ATF

I have a question...., when using a 50/50 mixture of acetone and ATF as a penetrating oil to loosen stuck parts, can the acetone/ATF mixture be stored in a plastic container, or does it have to be a metal or glass container ?? I never used it before, and not sure if it will attack the plastic.

Anybody know for sure ?

Thanks, Sal

I've had a rusty bolt laying in a small cup of Dextron for months, the rusty nut
will still NOT come off the rusty bolt. It looks as rusty as the day I put it in there.
Add acetone very, very often as it evaporates very very quickly.

Go to Walmart and get a spraycan of PB Blaster penetrant, and soak the rusty bolts

..

I'd suggest a glass or metal container with a tight fitting cap. Acetone will melt many plastics.

I'm usually not a fan of using glass jars in the shop they get broken too easily, but it may eventually soak thru the bottom seam of a metal can. The acetone will melt plastics. So go with glass with a good top to slow down evaporation of the acetone.

Rub it down good with a wire brush and heat the nut with a small torch, trying not to heat the bolt too much. Then work on it again as soon as it cools enough to handle.

use a metal gas can, acetone is shipped in metal cans from the factory, shake up the mixture often, the acetone and trans fluid doesn't like to stay mixed

My wifes fingernail polish remover is 100 % Acetone, and it comes in a plastic bottle.
Acetone will eat some plastics though.

glass is good for storing the mixture because you can see how much you have, BUT, if it gets knocks off the shelf the glass will break, quite a mess to clean up

That stuff is watered down quite a bit. 100% acetone is hazardous to any part of the human body.

WTF, what do you think, that I just made up the 100% figure ? Sheesh

It might be somewhat hazardous , as many things we use are, but you're
not suppose to take a bath with it.

Do a search to find out the facts, because, as I stated above, they DO
sell 100% acetone nail polish remover in a plastic bottle......

I put the mixture in a plastic spray bottle - the kind that have a pump nozzle. Works very well, and it's still the best penetrating/anti seize product that I've come across.
