4cyl Dwell

Generally back in the old days dwell or cam angle was never listed or measured until the 1950s or 60s when dwell meters became available. The specs for the dist. points gap on a model A or B is .020" which was all that was listed. However the dwell on most 4 cylinder engines is approx 60 deg. Regards, Kevin,

I’m memory serves me right presuming the distributor has the correct model b cam for the points and not a model a cam (they get mixed up a lot) , then around 43 degrees. I never check dwell on them unlike the v8’s having twice as much coil charge time one only one set of points you can set them by gap and be fine. V’8’s not so much

On a model A or B ford dist. points are set at .020 " which does not necessarily equal a cam angle or dwell of 60 deg. On most modern engines the dwell is set at around 60 deg. Forget the dwell and do it the way the handbook says, ie .020" Regards, Kevin.
