49 years ago today-MUSTANG introduced

I remember it well! Won the "Tiffany Award" for design (No one's ever heard of it before or since!) Cost? $2368.

That was about 2 months before I graduated from high school so I remember it very well.

With the TV hype you could feel that it was legend in the making.

I sold my 68 mustang to get the 31 Model A last year. Granted it went to my nephew so I can visit it. Ahh that's what happens when you have a car limit deal with the wife.

I bought a new Mustang Coupe in 1964 the year they were introduced, V8 standard shift, my every day driver until 1994 when I bought an Explorer. The Mustang cost $2600 as I recall. I still own it but it is not used very much these days. The original battery lasted 14 years which may be of interest as there was a recent thread on battery life. The Explorer original battery also lasted 14 years and was replaced only because I was heading to northern Vermont in mid winter and replaced it as a precaution.

Yes, I remember it being introduced at the New York World's Fair in April, 1964. The FIFTIETH ANNIVERSARY is being planned to take place at a number of locations across the country next April.
I think of it as being the direct descendant of the Model A.:)

Here is a picture of my grandparents in a 1965 mustang they bought brand new to go on their honeymoon to Mexico in & owned until my grandpa's death in 2011. It's still in the family.

I have owned several Mustangs over the years and currently own a 2013 Mustang with the 305 hp V6 and 6 speed manual transmission in Deep Impact Blue. Do you guys remember what other big event happened in April of 1964? Four long haired guys from Liverpool, England appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show for the first time. Of course they were the Beatles. I had just turned 12 and remember my mother and grandmother criticizing them. Those were the good old days.... :)

It was a good little car but I saw too many of them. I worked part time nights at a local Ford dealership from 1965 to 1971. They sold a lot of them, I used to be able to prep 2 a night for sale. That included a full wash and detail and coat of wax. The factory put a clear wax coating on the bumpers that would only come off with chrome polish and those windows were rough to clean on the inside with the plasticizer film from the vinyl interior. Nice memories though, had a picky boss that wanted things done right.
