49 to 53 fuel pump delete

I am going to use a electric fuel pump on my flathead. What type of plug is used to stop the oil when you remove the stock pump shaft?

I tapped mine with pipe threads and install a common pipe plug. I can't remember what size though. Remember if you do this there is no going back.

Tons of info. regarding this removing the bushing question. Read it all before you make a decision. My understanding is that it does no good to remove it in an 8BA engine.

I did not remove the bushing on my 8BA and there was no difference in oil pressure. However, I did make an oil filler cap with an extension that covers the bushing hole in order to eliminate the heavy mist of oil in the valve lifter valley. Been like that the last 15 years with no problems. I am using an electric fuel pump. As has been said, once that bushing is taken out it's tough to go back. Why create a problem, if there is none? This also serves as the oil filler pipe. The breather pipe has been shortened and can be seen under the driver side radiator hose with a K&N filter on top..

I found that if you left the pushrod in, it worked just fine. Don't over think things (KISS)
It's the journey, not the destination.

Once again very nice! What type of radiator fan shroud are you using. And the type of radiator.

Radiator and shroud are both from WALKER. I cut the shroud in half laterally to make it easier to remove and install. Radiator was the Cobra model and was installed in 1999. Fan blades extend about 3/4 inch inside the shroud.

Here's some info from the Merc Manual. As I recall I don't think the fit between the inner wall of the fuel pump push rod bearing and the push rod was very tight to start with. I think it is actually pretty loose. This "Looseness" would , I think, not have much effect, if any, on the original oil pressure unless it's that 1/16 hole that somehow creates oil pressure and NOT the fact that the fuel pump push rod is installed or not.
