can I adapt a 49 to 53 type dist onto my 46 to 48 flathead v8? I am doing an av-8 and clearance between radiator and timing cover is too tight to use 46 type dist. what parts would I need to get? thanks randy

The short answer is yes - but - then you need to change the cam, timing gears, front cover, pulleys, etc.

Why not just use a crab cap? It will snap right on your 59ab and the plug wires come out the side.

you can buy a cam adapter-bolts to front of cam from Speedway, add a 49-53 front cover-adapt a chevy distributor or you can just fix what is there already

There is no need to change cam and crank gears, this is a myth and the reverse thrust will have no affect on the timing. Also the chevy dist will clear the fan belt if the generator is moved forward 1/4 inch. This may cuse belt ware, but changing the belt every 20,00 miles and keeping the RPM under 6 grand will help. You could also use a 42 11A dist in the present location.

Cam adapter from Speedway??, Chevy distributor?? Where is this thread going? Randy just needs more clearance. So, I will go back to my comment
"why not just put a crab cap on" Keep things simple.
