If you want it all new Power Master makes a good one as well as a new starter . You can find them both on line at Summit Racing.

Hi Bob, Changing from positive to negative earth is a matter of repolarising the field coils, and there is a pretty good chance that with a 12 volt regulator you generator will function at 12 volts without changes other than repolarising it. See an older auto electrician, as the geny will need to be in good condition.
Enjoy your ride cowboy.;)

THANKS GUYS I want it to be as original as possible in appearence as I,am building a preiod correct 32 coupe with a 8ba. 50's style. i was told to install 64 ford falcon field coils in my gen.. as far as my starter it will work excellent on 12 volts and going to neg ground wont affect it all all. it even turns in the right direction. its at my electrical rebuilders now along with 3 gens.i,ve saved this stuff for 35+ yrs to build 1 last hot rod, guess its my last rodeo so to speak. more to come

I put 12 volt field coils into my 8BA type generator and use a Ford 12V regulator from mid fifties. Not as many amps but serves my system well as I don't have any electric accessories. I think I bought the coils from Reds a few years ago.
I have also used a Y block generator.

There have been several articles posted in the past on converting 6v generators to 12v generators. Might try a search here and on the HAMB.
