Ok, I stole it from Early V8

Interesting. It shows #1 on the cap towards the engine and on my car it is toward the inner fender apron. The cap can only go on one way and it has the 1 molded onto it. Cuold this drawing be off a little?

They probably put it that way since it is close to where the #1 firing location is while viewing the distributor strait on from the right side of the car or truck. I know it is very close to the 6 oclock position when viewing it that way but the diagram location makes it appear upside down.

every diagram I have ever seen shows it that way and it is incorrect. number one is oposite, towards the inner fender panel as shown in this picture.

JDL is correct. ALL diagrams are incorrect.

Very clean engine compartment JDL ..... very nice!

And here I thought that mine was out 180 because I viewed that same diagram. So all is good

cheers,
Andy

Some one tell me if I am wrong but, technically couldn't you put #1 anywhere you wanted if you rotated the distributor and routed the wires accordingly ??????

37 fat fender you are correct but the cap has a "1" molded into it and that spot sits close to the fender away from the block. The cap will not go on backwards. And the advance unit will only let you turn the distributor body a little bit.

number one on the distrib. could be any place you want it.
If you pull the distrib. and turn it 1/8 of a turn and change each wire around one hole it will still run the same.
My '51 pickup F-1 is like the "wrong" diagrams show it. If the distributor is 180 degress of just put the wires 180 degress off and you be 360 off ( full cricle).
If you put your fan belt on backwards will the fan blow instead of suck?

I agree with you. Been there done that.

Ya, I thought about that too 37 fat
How about a couple better pictures of each of the two cars at the left of your post?
Everybody like pictures..

The 40 has PM 7 and two 97's, and a Columbia rear. The 34 is a French Flathead with a T-5
