‘48 Ford F1 Camber

I recently inherited a ‘48 F1 pickup with a 3” drop Speedway front axle. It drives and handles fine, but has about 4 degrees of negative camber. Is this something I should be concerned about?

Thanks for any advice you may have.

Re: ‘48 Ford F1 Camber

The axle will have an angle called king pin inclination (KPI) built into the king pin bosses when viewed from the front. KPI along with the angle built into the spindles determines camber.
So….. you’d have to compare the factory KPI and know the camber of whatever spindle you have. Which I assume is 4 degrees….. to know where you’re at.
That’s basically the story.

Re: ‘48 Ford F1 Camber

They are usually at or near 0 to +1 on stock F1 pickups. Has the camber been checked on the front wheels after assembly? I would prefer a little positive to account for axle deflection under load but they will function with some negative. Bending the axle is the only way to adjust one unless some company makes different spindles than stock. Alignment shops that do big trucks know how to bend them.

Re: ‘48 Ford F1 Camber

I looked in the factory F series shop manual and it shows
minimum 1/4 and maximum 1.

Re: ‘48 Ford F1 Camber

What’s the Speedway axle made of? Maybe it can’t be straightened.
