‘48 F1 running boards

Howdy boys, I’m trying to figure just what I have here. The running boards on the right are off of grandads pickup. As you can see they need some repair. So, I found a pair that I thought were the same, (the pair on the left) but, they aren’t. They must be later than ‘48. Your thoughts please. Thanks!

Sorry guys, the pic didn't transfer for some reason. Trying to do it my phone rather than my laptop. I'll work on it.

Let’s try this again…..

Re: ‘48 F1 running boards

My Ford Chassis Part book for 1948-55 pickup shows two possible suspects. RH: 7C-16450-C at 70-7/8" long for "Closed Cabs or Platform" and 7C-16450-F at 70-1/4" long for "Pickups".

My suspicion is that all 4 running boards are for the pickup. The front and rear of the boards are shaped correctly for the 1948-52 pickup front and rear fenders. The pair on the right do have a extension apron to extend to the frame which does look similar to 1942-47 however they appear otherwise identical to the ones on the left. They are not 1942-47 with only 4 ribs and the rounded mount for the rear fenders. My best guess (and I vaguely recall a conversation from 40 years ago with someone who though they knew) is there is an early version (right) and a later version (left). That apron section at the top under the cab and bed would have been a pita to manufacture and I expect engineering revised and simplified them.

Re: ‘48 F1 running boards

The running board design for the 48-50 models (at least) had the style on the left. Later versions (may have been starting during the 50 model year), and all the repops match the pieces on the LEFT. These fit the 48-52 F1 models.

Karl recalled correctly.

Edited to get my lefts and rights corrected

FortyNiner, are you sure you meant the repops are the same as the ones on the right, or did you mean the left? The only repops I've seen so far, and I haven't looked far, are like the ones on the left. Thanks for all of the responses! Keep 'em coming, I'd like to figure this out. I know the boards on the right were on grandads pickup, he bought it new and I remember riding in it as a kid. I received it in '76, so I'm pretty sure they're stock. And, I think you are probably correct in your assumption Karl, looks like an early piece that was re-engineered early on.

Re: ‘48 F1 running boards

I believe that the ones with the long inside 'skirt' are '48 only. Tim it off and they should fit yours. Or leave it on, but they make getting to some bolts, etc harder.

Yup. Corrected my response. Left are 50+ Right are 48-50ish.

My 49 has the style on the right. They mount readily.

Thanks FortyNiner, that's what I thought. Now I need to find a pair, and sell the ones I just bought.
