Jim, my 35 had a hard time years ago as a "work horse". An Aussie car. The rear seat was removed so as to carry bananas around the farm to the packing barn. So it was in a wet environment with lots of sap from banana bunches etc and was extremely rusty. I Met a guy last year who said he knew of the car 25 years ago and it was rusty even then. At least it didn't get buried or scrapped. Pretty much all I'm using of the original car is cowl, doors, b-pillars, Tub, top irons. The photos don't show how bad the rust is. No floors, rockers, and fenders are held onto body with wire, I Just bought a 36 frame and mechanicals that has been restored and is turn key. ONly need to swap brake drums etc to put the wire wheels on Waiting for my 35 to be welded back together. I have left this large job to a pro. Have lots of other parts and have just aquired from a good friend another 35 tub, so the next project is ready and waiting. HMMM might be enough projects I think!!! Particularly when I could never sell them once finished!!! Am actually interested in setting up a wedding car business. Might as well be paid to drive around in an old henry!!! It looks like your 36 is coming along very nicely. Will be nice to see the finished car.Such a big job restoring a burnt shell. A friend did a fine job on a 38 std 5window coupe that he found burnt out.
I wonder how many 35-36 phaetons are on the road around the world? A friend in the know in Sydney believes as few as 20 1935 phaetons in Australia on the road.
Hopefully another one real soon!!!
