More information on the Ford Radius Rods also know as (engine steady rods & anti-chatter rods).

In the "Green Bible" page 226 is the infomation on part numbers and applications. However it does not give length deminsions.

The ones I have have an overall length of 15 1/8". I have found out that the 1935-41 Engine Radius 48 6044 when measured from the center of the eye to the flange are 12 13/16". I checked mine that is correct.

So far no more information on other part numbers.

I found the information at Red's Vintage Parts.

I am restoring a '37 Ford Flatbed. The frame was in bad shape and I'm doing some patching. The radius rod attachment holes are destroyed, so I've made new ones. The rods were just floating, so I'm guessing as to what to make and as you and others have said, not much information is out there. I need any pictures of the way it should be done, as well as any other input would be appreciated. I have no idea what attached the rod to the frame and the Green Book is no help. I assume cutting out the old and welding in the new is the way to go. Thanks for any input.

The steady rods for the 33-34 do not have threaded holes for the mounting bolts. The bolts pass through the frame and rod holes and attach with nuts and lock washers under the rods. In 35 ford went to a shorter mounting bolt than the 33-34 and threaded the ends of the rods, it still has the flat head countersink with a square drive (as 33-34) and uses a countersink external tooth star washer under the head. I believe the 35 rod carried over past 40 and then was lengthened. Around 38-9 the frame mounting hole was reinforced with a plate.

Thanks for the information.

Should the installation be with the countersink going up from the bottom, as shown in the Green Book on pg.208, as opposed to coming down from the top as they were when I got the truck? I'd hate to weld the patches in upside down!
