Hey guys,

Is the 1947 Mercury Steering wheel the same as a 49? (i.e. horn ring and hub)
Thanks in advance

As I recall the '47 fits on the tapered shaft with a keyway. I believe the '49 wheel fits on a splined shaft.

I will have to change my answer. There is a 49 Merc wheel advertised on e-Bay and when looking at an expanded photo of the bottom of the wheel there appears to be a keyway in the wheel. I can't tell if the hole is tapered or not.

The accessory wheel in the photo is an expensive unit if a person locates one. The stock 1949 and 50 wheels have a shroud over the center with a separate horn ring. One might fit the other if the taper is the same on the shaft but there may be interference with the turn signal on a 49 or 50. The shifter is likely different as well. I'm familiar with the 1949 through 51 cars but not so much on the earlier post war models.

My accessory wheel is tapered with a keyway... the standard wheel that is NON accessory is the same tapered with a keyway.
