I looked at Mac Van Pelt fuel system diagram, but can't tell which way the float is to point, when installing the tank sender. It looks like to the rear of the car,but I thought It was to point towards one SIDE.Thanks.47 merc tank, drake sender. Also the resistance readings of old and new, don't show the same range of resistance readings.OLD-6V,NEW MAY BE 12V?

Most fuel sending units are rated by the OHMs resistance at full and at empty. Original FoMoCo units were variable current devices that required very little movement to give an instrument reading. There are a number of posts on this board about the subject of the currently available alternatives to the original senders and none of them are favorable to the replacement units. The resistance levels to make the original instrument systems function correctly are still an unknown to me.

The original sender units had a mounting hole distance spread that only allowed them to be installed in one position. The most stable in an unbaffeled tank would most likely be from front to rear or the other way around depending on the size and layout of the tank and the location of the sender. A float set in the center would be the most stable location

I have stock tank and sender and, as rotorwrench said, it will only fit one way - with the float forward.

Thanks barners,I've taken too many things apart, over a long period of time, instead of completing one at a time.
