47 Ford Pickup trans question

I have a stock 47 Ford pickup with the 3spd trans. The trans will jump out of 2nd gear when I let off of the gas. Trans and engine mounts are in good shape. What should I look for to fix this problem. Trans is quite and shifts thru all gears smoothly.
Thanks.

Worn synchro ring, main shaft play, counter shaft play, and shifter detents can all have an effect on a problem like this. Gear tooth wear or damage can also have an effect. It might be time for an inspection in there and maybe overhaul if its been a long time since the last.

That is a common problem. All wear adds up.First the mainshaft behind 2nd gear wears, rear bearing loose worn, syn hub worn, shift lever ect. What happens is when letting off because of the slant gears,2nd pulls out of the hub.Its only held in by about 1/8 +or-.Time to rebuild

My solution is inexpensive- put a much stronger spring into the detent... Works well, does not change the feel of shifting...
In my opinion, the syncros are a part that are not related to the problem of popping out of gear... Worn shift sleeve, second gear bushing to shaft clearance, other wear factors, yes... My fix is a band aid, works for me on a trans put together from a basket of parts, and in fairly good shape.... Karl

Thanks Karl. Where would I find a strong spring? Is there a spring that would be specific to the application?
