'47 Ford Drive Line Help

I attempted to fix a noise in my drive train last winter, with trans rebuild and Lincoln universal. It solved some of the vibration ( I think the universal joint was wearing out) I was experiencing but the noise still remains (noise occurs at approx 50 mph and comes and goes depending on if you are on or off the throttle). I just removed the front drive line bearing and race/sleeve and the bearings seem to have a lot of side to side play on their shafts and the sleeve had an interesting and uneven wear pattern.
I've done some research on the center bearing and I am aware of a replacement bearing being manufactured. I took a broom handle and since it's OD was smaller than the drive line I wrapped some masking tape on and jammed it into the bearing. Because you can barely see anything, going just by feel it seems to feel OK. The drive line is very clean with no rust and the raised area in the center than would ride in the center bearing appears to be in good shape with a just a little circular wear pattern.
Does any body have any advice or suggestions for me?
Thanks Jeff

The center driveshaft carrier bearing can get rusty from condensation inside the torque tube. Not to many have lasted more than 50 years unless they were in climate controled garges and serviced regularly. It is rubber mounted and the rubber goes bad with time causing it to be kind of sloppy in the mounting. I'd be suspect of that first and foremost.
