47 Ford car accelerator linkage

Does anyone know here can I find a diagram of the entire linkage system from the gas pedal to the carburetor for a 1947 Ford with a Holley Model 59 carburetor? I believe on occasion; something is getting hung up when I come off the accelerator at a light or stop sign and the carb doesn't fully return to normal idle. I have to get my shoe behind the accelerator pedal to get it all the way back. I suspect perhaps a weak accelerator return spring (part 48-9737), but I want to make sure there is not somewhere else in the linkage system that it is binding. Does such a diagram exist? Any help/insight appreciated. Thank you.

Fairly simple linkage. There is a short rod between the peddle and the mechanism. Another longer rod between the mechanism and the carburetor.
Check at the floor for obstructions, carpet, floor mat, etc. If there are no obstructions that leaves pretty much one possibility... weak spring. You may be surprised at the difference between a new spring and one that is eighty years old.

Can you please tell me what is involved in changing out the spring? Thank you.

It's a tad bit of a PITA. You can cut the old one off if you like. The new one? Slip it over the end. That's the PITA part as it won't go willingly, but it will go.
Once the spring is in place, reinstall the mechanism. I put a piece of strong string over the end of the spring and pull it up and over the shaft of the mechanism.
Might be a good idea to take a photo of how the spring is orientated prior to removing it. Too easy to forget, at least for me.
Save yourself a lot of frustration in attempts to have the spring 100% in place and then install the mechanism.

Daoust, u have to remove the linkage from engine side of firewall to replace spring. If u go this route there is a couple of tiny holes in the outside housing where the rod goes through, squiring some penetrating oil in there will help the rod pivot easier & without any hangup.u may be able to do it on the car, unhook from carb the holes face up so it could save a lot of work.

Disconnect the rod between the carburetor and firewall. See if the problem is on the pedal side or the carb side. It could be on the other side of the carb where the hand throttle is connected.
