47 Big Truck Model Numbers

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you!

I can find ford model number information in a number of places to include the Green Book. I've got a few 47 big trucks. When I look at the Green Book data and I look at my trucks I can pretty easily see what model it is. Problem is the glove box door placards don't seem to match what I see with my eyes. For example, I've got a big grain truck that is a 158" wheelbase truck that according to the Green Book is a model 798T, but the glove box placard (with the correct serial number listed) shows 79T, which is a 134" wheelbase truck. Maybe this falls into the "who cares" category, but the title I got when I bought it shows model 79T instead of 798T and I'm wondering if that will be an issue when I get the title in my name and want it to be correct. I'm assuming the guy I bought it from wasn't quite as obsessed with old Ford trucks as I am and just saw the model number of the glove box placard and pressed on. Or, was it common practice for trucks to be modified by owners to other configurations?

Thanks in advance.

Here in the Deep South, our state has a process called -corrected title. The police look at the serial number, write it on a form-Affidavit of Physical Inspection which the Motor Vehicle Department accepts and they mail us a new title with correct information on it.

I have owned many ford big trucks over the years '28-'59, and the only thing I ever took notice of was that the title had a vin # on it. I honestly don't think anybody at the DOL cares what wheelbase it is. But maybe that's just me. I have swapped glove box doors around like musical chairs, never caring about the badge on the back, just going for one in better condition. I think you'll be fine until you sell it to someone shipping it to Australia or Holland or someplace where they inspect it deeply.

Very true. I think you can even order those glove box placards so who knows if the one in there is the original. I'm sure UT DMV won't care so I'll just apply for the title with the info that is already on the current title and pat myself on the back for being so smart for knowing what the real story is. LOL

Could also probably go this route...trying to correct it and hope I don't experience the "be careful what you ask for" routine.
