430 mel

Is there any value or interest in the 430 MEL engines? Looking at a Lincoln with one in it, car is rusty but has many good parts. The guy is asking a little more than I think its worth, but the engine turns over. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, DAVE

no interest in those engines, big heavy low h/p, its worth $300 as a junker here if the car is complete,to big for hot rod or street rod use,i think you would be better off looking for a 4 barreled 302, or a windsor 351 with a 4 barrel

It would be worth something to someone who is restoring a Lincoln or Mercury and needs one.

I would say personally I have about a much interest in one as, say a 4 barreled 302, or a windsor 351 with a 4 barrel.:eek::eek:

the 58 to 60 mercury 430 had the same bell as an fe.the lincoln was on its own.years ago it was common to see a 430 in a ford but not the lincoln one.

KULTULZ is a member here and on a fair number of other forums. He is a big MEL enthusiast. You could try to contact him about the engine to see if there is anything
he needs. I've had a fascination with the MEL head design for a long time. Once owned a 430 for a day. The 3 deuce 430 Marauder had 300 cfm 2bbl carbs I am told.

Back in the late '50s I put a y-block in a '37 coupe. I drove it for a while and traded it for a flathead powered '40 Ford convertible. The friend I traded with bought an Edsel 430 engine and replaced the y-block in the '37. Someone earlier said the 430 didn't have much power, but I remember that car had lots of torque and would fly. Of course, we weren't exposed to the engines of today to judge it by.
