'42 flathead v8 - c4 setup

The use of a C-4 automatic trans requires an open drive line which requires modifications to the differential and the use of parallel rear springs. A lot of work/money to achieve very little return.
A friend of mine converted his pickup to an AOD trans, it cost him $2,800. in hard money, plus a lot of work.
At the price of fuel, factoring in the few miles of improved fuel mileage, I figured my friend would have to drive the truck 60K miles to break even.. Not a very good value.

Where is he getting the increased fuel mileage with an automatic? An automatic transmission typically get several mpg less mileage than a stick shift.

Because it's an "AOD"? Since it was a pickup, it probably had pretty low gears to start with.

Good point tubman! I was reading too quickly, thought we were still on C4s!!! :)

I'm a big AOD fan, have used a lot of them.

You can,t use a Speedway on a 59a.
I put one from Flatomatic and you will really like it.
Nice and quite no gear noise never miss a shift.
You do have to change rear-end and frame kit for trans mount.
