41 Ford Wheel Pinstriping?

I have a newly restored 41 Ford convertible and need to pinstripe my wheels with the original triple stripe in vermillion red. Does anyone know of a good source for getting this done; is there someone who does this in the Chicago area (I live in the northwest suburbs)? Are there any special techniques that would allow me to do this myself?

Thanks, Scott

I have forgotten the name of the device but someone makes a striping wheel that does a good job. Google pin stripe wheel and I'll bet you come up with one. Bugler or something like that. CRS

Beugler sells direct. Their basic kit with three wheel heads is about $100.00. I don't think Lawson's CRS is as bad as he thinks it is.

The striping wheels don't produce the expected results. By the time a novice gets adept at it, he could have become way better at using a traditional striping brush.

A lazy susan type jig to spin the wheel is not hard to do. Lay the wheel flat on the susan, steady your hand on a bridge constructed over the wheel. A striping job done by yourself in the traditional method gives you bragging rights!

Don't ever consider using the striping tape that some guys advocate. Being of a perfectly consistent width, it's instantly recognizable as tape. You need the slight inconsistency of a manual striping job to confirm authenticity. Look at the job done on the wheels of the Opera Coupe posted by 41ford1 yesterday. Striped by an amatuer, still way better than tape. That car, by the way, would have looked very nice in my garage!

The nice thing about striping wheels is they are on a factory made alternate to a lazy suzan, the hub and bearings. Just jack up the car and spin the wheel. If you don't have steady hands you can clamp the brush to a step stool or something similar and carefully slide it into the wheel. Pieces of tape just to the side of where you want to stripe can help you line things up.

Thank you for all the suggestions. I actually have a Buegler tool, but I'm not sure I'm ready to try it for the first time on my convertible wheels. I talked to some of my colleagues in the EFV8 club who gave me the name a local person here in the Chicago area who is supposed to do pretty good work -- Greg Widaman, so I am going to try him first before attempting anything myself. Hopefully I'll be able to line something up.

Chad - I got your PM with Larry's info. Thank you very much!! Between Greg and Larry, hopefully I'll be able to line someting up soon.

Thanks again!!

My son does pinstriping in Socal. Recently did a set of wheels for a '42 station wagon. Used a Buegler tool. Wheel mounted on a wheel balancer - the bubble style. Used the hub cap as a guide. If you use trim rings, it is hardly worth the effort, the lines will not show as well. Depending on the striper, how good they are, what mood they are in etc., figure about $15 -$30 per line. The lines can vary in width, spacing etc., so be sure you will get what you wants.

Mine still has a set of four color keyed rims date coded Oct 1940 and appear to be original. Of course, thats not a guarantee that they were all done the same. The middle stripe appears a little wider than the two.
