41 Ford steering gear adjustment

I think I need adjustment on the steering on my 41. The symptom is that sometime it feels like the steering is not connected causing me to panic for a bit. It is though there is a gap between left and right. My book lists a symptom as "loose steering" and I think this is what it is. When I look at the drawings it shows an adjustment screw and lock nut. Will loosening the lock nut and adjusting the screw be all that I need to do to tighten up the steering or do I need to do much more?
Thank you
John

You got the idea. Take off the cap and star washer to access the adjustment screw. Be sure that your wheel is centered and tighten the screw till it just starts to feel resistance. You do not want to preload the roller any. Check the free play on your wheel and check the adjustment again. Sometimes a few times will result in a slightly better adjustment. When have completed the adjustment replace the star washer and cap and you are finished.
Of course, if there is any excess clearances in any of your steering components (king pins, tie rod ends or drag link) this adjustment will not remove any of this free play. All components need to be tight and free of excess clearance but this should go without saying!
Good luck
