'40 steering problem revisited

Got a new pitman arm in excellent condition, goes on sector shaft as it should now but drag link hits bottom of pan because new arm sweeps up and goes further on to sector shaft. Have dropped steering arms but not quite enough for link to clear pan; will order straight drag link from CE that should give more clearance.

When bending the arm may want to use a coat hanger to see how much its being bent. When I did mine had in vise, helper held rose bud and I bent it. You want 2 bends, one bend the big end and the other for drag link to bring back up horz.

The 35 to 40 frames putting a 8ba 49-53 engine they lifted the engine up about 3".
If you can't get the clearance you need, your idea of putting the drag nut up .
Lost thing you may want to do, cut arm in half and wield link nut facing up.
It will be better then doing hoses, exhaust. and other problems.
