40 std. hood trim fit

Has anyone had trouble with the Drake lower front hood trim (01A-8216) fit? I tried to instal them today and the radial was wrong. I tried it on another hood and they fit the same on that hood. I called Drake and was told they have had no complaints. They checked stock and said all the trim in stock were the same. Can any of you guys give me some help on this?
Lew

Thanks for the reply. Would you let me know if they fit or not. The ones I have are curved to much, it would be very hard to straighten them some and make them look good.
Thanks, Lew

Hi guys, since I saw my name posted about the 40 std hood trim I thought I should do some investigation. I have installed a 40 st hood trim on a good hood I have and it aligns A OK. Be advised tapered end of the stainless goes to the front of the hood, if you have it reversed it does not fit as well. Because you have not posted a picture and a guess is necessary, just as a question, since you say that the part you have is curved too much does this part have a single rib or does it have multiple ribs? If you respond multiple ribs that is for a deluxe hood and will no way fit correctly.

Thanks for the reply Dick, The trim I have is for the std. hood. It has one bead and can only go on one way because of the cutout for the other screws in the hood. How long have you had the trims you have? I got these about a year ago from drake and were in a unopened bag. I love my 40, had it since high school. I am 69. Thanks again, Lew

First, let me tell Dick Spadaro how much his customer service is appreciated. Ordered Dec 29, recd Jan 5. NY to OK. Ordered from a supplier who's product line is much smaller and more specific on Dec 23, when I called a couple of days ago to check on shipment I was told there was only three orders before mine, should ship any day?????????? Now back to the hood trim, sorry Dick, Lew is correct. The radius of the trim does not match my hood [40 Std] nor the original trim pieces. Joe

Hi guys , this is like long distance trouble shooting but here is a picture of the hood and the new trim strip I used to qualify the fit last night, as you can see it fits the curve of the hood. If you PM me with a picture of your fit it might be easier to resolve the issue. DS

Hi Again, I talked to Drake again today, they said they just sent out the last three, the guy I talked to a couple of days ago said they had something like 800. They told me to check back in 30 days. I am not sure what is going on. Thanks Joe and Dick for checking on this, let me know if you find anything and I will do the same. lewgroth@charter.net Lew

Ok, here is the picture of mine. I used some blue masking tape to more better see the difference. On the hood you can see the blue showing the difference, as you also can where laid the best original one I have on top of the new one. Also, not that it is a big deal to me, the scews included have a smaller head that the original and will easily slide thru the holes in the trim. Dick, I do realize that you are not the manufacturer. I always appreciate your willingness to involve your self in these discussions. My experience with your business is nothing but the best and I will continue to purchase from you.

Joe, That is the way the ones I have fit. Thanks for posting the pictures. Dick, will you be calling Drake? I talked to Jerry in returns if you are interested. Thanks again, Lew

OK, guys I spent this morning fooling with these trims on the hood I have. My driver side fits acceptable with a minute space towards the center which can be tightened up if I fool with it some more. The passenger side does have a slightly larger gap but after fooling around with the curve trim it was determined that the slots for the mounting screws were slightly out of position and prevented the trim from seating correctly. If you clamp the trim in place and check the reference holes you can see what I have encountered. I found the best way to fit the trim was to install the center screw and work the trim to the outside. In any case if you want to ship them back for a refund, no problem. DS

Ok I will try that. I assuming that you are determining the pass/drv side by the folded edge being placed up? I will let you know. Also, this weekend I am going to assist a friend putting the final touches on a 40 pu and will check on that hood also.

OK, I agree with Dick. After installing the original pieces, they don't fit real great. After holding the new ones up to the hood I compared them to the originals without trying originals on the hood. The originals are not identical either. Maybe Ford matched trim pieces to each hood, setting aside those that did not fit well????????The hood is obviously slightly different side to side also. This hood showed no signs of repair in bare metal, so I assume it was that way from the start. Once again, it may be my desire to have a fit like modern vehicles and realizing they didn't have that fit originally. I believe these will work ok. Lew, I hope you have the same result. Do you have the original trim pieces for yours?

Hi Guys, I have a ok set of oringinals that I can use but they are not perfect. I think I will use them for now rather than takeing a chance of chipping paint. I have always had good luck with Drake's stuff and I am sure they are not what is normal for him.
I would like trying to strech to see if they would fit better but if it did work it would make the inside edge look bad. I think I will see what Drake comes up with in 30 days. Maybe it will be a new batch and they will have corrected them. Thanks again, Lew

I just found another set of originals and tried them, if the Drakes fit like either set of originals I would be satisfied. Lew

I installed a pair of these on my 40 hood but that was 16 yrs ago. I do remember having to coax them in place but with a little effort they will work. Best I remember they didnt have enough curve to them , they are on the hood and have been for all those yrs and still look great.
