40 PU spare tire mount

I'm building a 40 pickup from a basket case and need to add a spare side mount on the bed (passenger side). The side panel of the bed is a reproduction with no mount. The rear fender has the dip so I am OK there. (Milt Karel sent a few nice photos of his finished beauty.) Does anyone know if the mounts are available aftermarket?

Have any Barners built one? It doesn't look impossible, but would require some measurements.

Appreciate your thoughts.

I have one that I am taking off a 47, if it will work for you, you can have it for the price of shipping.

Don't want to scupper anything, but 47's are mounted on the driver's side, 40's are on the pass side. Pretty sure the brackets are a bit different too. That said, if you're handy you might be able to make a 47 bracket work on the other side.

Mart.

For the price of free, it can't be beat. I agree Mart, you should be able to make it work on the passenger side by taking it apart and reversing everything.

VanSpeed: IF Don does NOT want it - I DO! I've been looking for a spare tire mount for a '47 PU - and I'll gladly pay for it! Please let me know: drugcourt@bellsouth.net or 601-253-2732 (H), 601-416-6784 (C).

Spare tire mounts on 1936 to 1941 mounted on the passenger side and were mounted to a bracket bolted to the frame under the running board. A hole is drilled through the running board and lined up with the bracket under the board. No holes in the bed.

Thanks to Jeff I'm getting the 47 spare tire mount for quick modification to fit my 40. He's one of the good guys.

(Barners still rule.)

I have a 40 mount that allegedly came off the original bed of my pickup. My truck also has the bracket on the frame and the hole in the running board. I am told that 40 was a transition year. I would prefer the frame-mount rather then put the bracket on my reproduction bed. I will happily photograph and measure the bed mount that I have if you want to fabricate one, or swap someone for the frame-based running board mount.

There IS a hole in the bed on 35-36 for a bolt to hold the spare mount steady (well, sort of steady) The hole goes through the outer skin of the bed and through the sub frame as well. Hole in skin is larger than one in sub frame. A hollow spacer tube goes between the mount and the sub frame and a bolt goes through the outer hole and the spacer stops at the sub frame. Poor explanation. On reproduction beds you have to drill the holes yourself.
