40 one piece intake valve guide o ring retainer placement?

Can some one look at the picture I have attached and see if I have the rubber o ring and the valve guide retainer at the correct areas for assembly? It is my understanding this is the intake valve guide. Is that correct?

You got it. Seals on the intake only if you put them on the exhaust you will never get the guide out again.

I don't use the seal, just apply a small amt of RTV when installing the guide.

To make them install easier, grind a litte champfer on the sharp edge on the top of the guide, put a little slim on the rubber makes it easier to install. Walt

One of the o rings broke while I was putting them together. I don't have another o ring. I have been told to fill the guide area the o ring goes in with RTV. Do I fill the entire slot in the guide with RTV or do I put the o ring on and then fill the rest of it with RTV? Anybody got any details or can enlighten me on this? What does the o ring do on the intake valve guide anyway?
