40 going independent

Just finshed the 40 front suspension except the springs, I think it's going to work good. It will be flathead powered, with an automatic trans, 8" fairlane rear, alittle old and a little new.

That should ride good. When you get my age you'll like a smooth ride. My 40 seems to ride harder every year. My son inlaw has a 40 pickup, 8in. Granada rear with parreal springs, stock front end with a Mono leaf front spring. It rides alot smoother than my 40 with buggy springs. Walt

Chuck, looks great. Especially like leaving the original motor mounts as you did. I put a CE bolt-in in a '37 using their add-on motor mounts & while it worked, the mounts didn't look as good as your idea! Dick

It is fun after all the rust is gone and the welding is done. I can go out and work on it and come back in not looking like a caveman. The wife gets a little testy when I have dirt falling off at the supper table, Chuck.

Looking good. That should make a real nice driver when you are finished. The M2 cross member looks deeper than most that I've seen. Did you custom make it?

Yea, I thought it looked pretty deep. I guess time will tell. It does have 2" dropped spindles, so maybe that's it.
Is your truck up to the trip down to the smokies? I'm thinking about driving my 39 - totally stock, i will need company at those water stops! Be sure to give JM 35 your ideas, a date, a place to start, so far we are thinking about a three day trip sometime in October. If we have half the fun we have last year it will be worth it.

I like that plate under the rear of the frame for the rear spring shackel. Walt

Yes Walt, it is real hefty, 3/8" and is cut so you can clear the gas tank.
The whole package is by Chassis Engineering, should help the old 40 a lot.

Do you remember that Mercury crank I scored at Fitchburg last year Walt? I just got it back from the machine shop yesterday and it cleaned up at 10-10, balanced out nice, they said it was perfect. I'll post some pics later, Chuck.
