40 Ford trunk wire routing

All the wires for the tail lamps, etc, terminate in the left rear corner of the frame.

Yes but where does that wire go down? Ordered a license plate wire thats supposed to tie into that harness but it isnt long enough and 2nd where does it go through floorboard to get to that corner?

On my 39 coupe, the license plate wire comes up in the rear (driver side) of the trunk and runs along top of trunk, down into where licence plate is. I should mention there is a bullet connection near end of run before dropping down to light

All wiring is under insulation

The wire is attached to handle base, then i ran it along trunk lid using existing wire strap and it goes about a foot down behind the hood prop side and thats it..i have wire diagrams but its like the license light wire is just not long enough

Sounds like your missing the wire that comes up from the frame into the rear of trunk and over to the wire you have

The diagrams look different to me. In the first one it appears there is a connector drawn below the fuel level sender. On the second diagram this connection is shown much shorter. I would guess the car shadow diagram is more repressive of the actual situation (but just a guess based on the drawings!).

Its a 40 fordor deluxe

The Fordor sedan had a short pigtail that was integral of the lamp socket. That is butt connected to a wire that runs to the left trunk lid hinge (area). You'll note a couple of clips integral of the inner lid structure that hold that wire in place. That wire is placed inside a conduit which is available from most major parts suppliers by the foot.

Okay, the wire I'd previously described ends near the left hinge. IT is butt connected near the hinge to yet one more wire that runs to the left and behind the left trunk liner. A small, approximately 1/2" long clip, holds the wire to the left hinge.
There is a small hole in the trunk floor near the body mount that the aforementioned wire travels through to the under-body. A small dab of
"dum- dum" putty had originally sealed that hole around the wire.

Kube, is this what is being referred to as 14585 being a clip? Is there a difference reference with the same base number for a harness?

That clip you mention is used along the frame, etc. but is not the one used originally in the trunk. Without my books near me, I can't offer the proper number.

I may be getting confused, I thought we were discussing whether the number provided (14585) was a wire harness (as posted in #8) or if that number was a frame type wire clip (as listed in the Green Book). I didn't believe it had anything to do with being a correct clip for the trunk harness under consideration, just a confused or typo harness number. But, maybe I got lost somewhere along the way, LOL. :)

No I messed it up and tried to clairify in a later post. That number is associated with 38-39 wiring.

I dont need the clips..wire from handle base is attached to license plate wire that runs along trunk lid clips to hinge and goes down a few more inches. I need to get the wire from there to the corner of frame where i have tail lights hooked in already. Not only that wire but where does wire go through at to reach corner of frame. If this wasnt mostly original i woukd just run any scrap wire i had here but i want it done correctly
