What is an acceptable fluid for original shocks ? Seems like hydraulic jack fluid would be doable. Tell me what you think, gents. Also, what about transverse spring lubrication grease ? Thank you ! Kenny C.

If shock fluid is unavailable, hydraulic jack fluid will suffice.

Proper spring lubricant has been unavailable for decades.
When I used up the pail of Ford lubricant I'd had since the 1970's, I went to STP oil treatment.
I'm certain other folks have their favorite as well.
Do NOT use grease.

Multi viscosity tractor hydraulic oil, I get it from the Kubota hydrostatic transmission oil jug.
Automotive transmission oil is a little too thin
motorcycle fork oils come in different viscosity , the more worn the shock the higher the viscosity needed.

In the ford service bulletins it specifies spring lubricant specification— from memory it is about 75% ice machine oil ( auto transmission oil), 20 some percent talc ( in this use talc is a polishing agent and dry lubricant) and originally a dash of ground asbestos ( probably ok to leave out) — to be used in grease gun, shake well before use.

Kube, how do you apply the STP oil? Do you use the zerk or apply it to the outsides of the springs and let it seep in?
