If my 40 Ford door is locked from the ouside with a key can I open it from the inside with the handle or are they 2 seperate locks?

I just tried this on my original 40 sedan. If I lock it with the key I can open the door from the inside but not from the outside until I unlock it with the key.

Curly: Originally ignition and door were one key, the glove box and the trunk are the other key. Possibility of removing the door lock cylinder by loosing the set screw on the side of the door, if the ignition and door cylinders have not been changer, you can have a key cut to the code on the side of the door cylinder, may work on the ignition. If original it may take a lot of penetrating oil and time to loosen the set screw. Original set screw has a screwdriver straight blade head that can break.
