'40 Ford Door Interchange?

I have a few '40 Ford project coupes Where I am putting together the best parts for my hero car. The worst car was torn down decades ago and stored outside but the doors have been in dry storage. I favor the Business coupe and those doors are not as good. Do these old Fords interchange major body components well or are they like my old Porsche where fitting is required? Thanks: Fred A

Hi; I once used a NOS door [in the box still], and it fit fine. I have also put 4 dr fronts on coupes by trimming the top corner, all fit well. Fit for a forty is adj by hinge bend frequently. Newc

Carpenter (ne Drake) reproduction doors are available.

1937-40 5 Window coupe shared the same basic door shape and can be modified to fit. The differences include the front window track (vent window on the 1940), outside door handle mounts, outside trim hole locations, and garnish moulding holes.

The fordor door requires upper rear corner modification as noted above.

Tudor doors are too long.

Hope this helps

I'd think you a very lucky man to be able to bolt a door from one '40 onto another without at least a little bit of tweaking required. And that's if both are excellent examples. If something is worn, and how often do you find NOS doors 72 years after production, you will have even more fitting/bending/cutting/welding to do.

2 -door sedan doors will work with some shortening, my suggestion is bolt them on and see how much clearance you have my father in laws coupe had two of them on his car..[/I]

I have both a tudor and a coupe. The tudor door measures 41" at the belt line. The coupe door measures 34 3/4' at the belt line

I believe a tudor & convertible are both 41" & interchangeable as are a coupe & 4dr sedan front doors at approx. 35", with a little tweeking, i have used both, hope this helps,
