Have seen on ebay and on some pics of cars "Engine Pans" for a 40. I assume they are to protect the underside of the pan/crank pulley/fan etc. Am I crazy? Is there a part number? Thanks

For the right side 91A 6775 Pan (engine dust) RH and for the left side 91A 6776 Pan (engine) LE LHD from the Green Bible. These fit 1937-41. These are for the larger engine. There are different pans for the 60Hp (post if you need the number). The "1940 Ford Book" from the Early V8 Club (earlyfordv8.org) should show you what you need (I don't have a copy to check). There are probably a lot of them out there that look similar. They go between the oil pan and the frame and keep water/dirt out of the engine compartment and help air flow across the engine (or so I have been told) and are not in a location to protect the things you listed. They were usually thrown away by the first mechanic that worked on the vehicle.

They mount on the frame and were intended to keep dust, gravel, water, etc. out of the engine compartment. Per Green Book, part nos. for '40 truck are O1T-6775 (right side) and O1T-6776 (left side).

They are commonly called "engine splash pans" and came on lots of engines. My 85 HP 40 Ford car had one on each side of the engine -screwed to the bottom of the frame rails and front cross member. Purpose was to keep water from splashing up into the engine compartment. They were often removed and left off by lots of mechanics. Ford part numbers for 1939 thru 41 were 91A-6775 (right hand side) and 91A-6776 (left hand side) for models 91A, C, 99A, C, 09A,C,11C 19C
