40 cowl vent

I just reassembled the cowl vent and it doesn't close completely. I have a Drake seal 91A-7002330 (made in the usa) that seems to be too think.
Is there better one to install to get a good seal? What do the special spacers (or washers/shims) on the hinge look like? A friend turned a two-
step washer for the large hole on the welded part of the hinge with the big hole. I thought this would help the fit, but I still have the problem.

I'm not much help in making yours fit better but for what it's worth I just put mine in last week with the Drake seal and mine closes perfect. Makes me think maybe it's not the seal causing the problem, maybe some of the holes are enlarged or something is bent?

Be sure you install the seal with the radiused edge facing down. Maybe these photos will help. I'll take more if you need them.

I had a similar problem with one of my 40 years ago; I loosend all the bolts, had a friend push down the vent hard, tightend the bolts, and all was well! Maybe it will work for you. Good luck!
