'40 Convertible Column Shift Bracket Question

This bracket is attached to the column shift tube. We aren't sure how it attaches. Does it mount to the bottom of the dash? There is no bracket like this on my Sedan, so I'm assuming it's a convertible/woodie only part. I have it circled in the picture.

I never noticed anything convertible specific on my car. That looks like the part that holds the column shift forks on the engine side of the firewall to me.

Here are pictures of both the engine side and inside firewall of the column shift tube of the Sedan. There is no bracket like on the Convertible. Very puzzling.

It's in the first picture of the column forks, it's under the forks. You can just see the top of it near the firewall. Every column shift Ford has that piece.

Here is the current state of the car. It will be painted the same purple as done in the late '50s. You can see the color on the wheel.

You would be justified to tell me to shut up and mind my business, but here goes:

I think if you paint it purple you will knock off about $10,000 of resale value. That may have been "cool" in the fifties and sixties, but not anymore.

X2

The days of "Plum Crazy" are gone.

It was CMG for about 17 years and then purple for the next 60+. I'm not worried about resale, I plan to keep it until I die. Appreciate the comments either way.
