40 Anti Rattle staple installation

After searching for a better way to install the staples into the garnish and struggling with the rear windows on my tudor, I came up with a solution that worked way better for the fronts.

I make a combination jig and clamp out of a sheet metal vice grip. I cut two 1/16" slots in the blade of the vise grip with a Dremel tool. The slots are separated by the width of the staples and run into the blade deep enough so the end of the slots is aligned with the center of the garnish lip when the vice grips are shoved tight into the garnish. This holds the anti rattler in place while a 1/16 drill opens a hole through the felt and the garnish. I place the staple through the perfectly aligned holes and remove the vice grips. After bending the ends of the staples over with short needle nose pliers I clamp them down with small Knipix pliers. I spent hours doing the back windows but did each front window in a few painless minutes.
