I am looking at a seat for my coupe; it does not have hinges at the top, but it does have clips that allow the back cushion to pivot up. I tossed mine in the mid 60s and don't remember what it looked like. Also if this seat is from a 4dr can it be modified to work? Thanks, Joel

Joe is your coupe an opera or a business coupe?I thought a 4 door had a solid back if so you can't use it.A business coupe had a solid back, but it pivoted up from the bottom of the back so you had access to the front of the trunk. An opera coupe had a split back like a 2 door or a convertible.

I know, I just can't remember the exact construction. I'm trying to identify a seat and/ or figure out if I can use a 4dr front by modifying it.

I'm not sure if my 40 coupe seat is original or not but the construction is wood, coils for the bottom cushion and the back, the back pivots up from the bottom on hinges at the top for access behind the seat and there's a catch arm to hold it up, same as on a large box lid.

Wood sides are upholstered and there is material that bridges the area between the top of the seat and the rear package tray, enough for the seat to move as far forward as the original tracks will let it.

I can get pics if you'd like - I'm at work now.

Thanks, Tom, the pics would be helpful. What you describe is sort of what I remember, but it's been a long time since I've seen one. Is the bottom framework wood also or just the sides and back?
