40-48 drums on F2 backing plates

I know that you can use Buick finned drums on F2 backing plates but does anyone know if you can use a standard 40-48 drum? It looks like you might have to turn off 1/4" or so off the lip of the drum. Both are 12" and there is a little over 2" of drum surface for the 2" F2 shoes. I posted on the HAMM but thought I would try here as well.

The F2 backing plates have 1/2" less back space than 48 plates. You would need to machine off 1/2" from the brake surface. They are 1 3/4" wide. 1 1/4" shoes?

I wanted to do this and found the outside diameter of the f2 plate and the 40 drums are the same and didn't want to have to modify the parts to make them work.

Thanks guys! I may go with either buick finned drums or I was told that Lincoln will work.
