Yes, the 390 or a 500 Edelbrock. You also need to change the dizzy to a 57 or newer to make the advance work.

thanks for that, I got it suggested that 600 with vac secondarys would be the one to use , will do a little more research

You will have to use and adapter if going onto an A manifold or you maybe lucky and have a B manifold, even so you will still need a 1/2" 4 hole spacer. AS suggested you will need 57 onwards dizzy to go with. I ran a 600 Vac sec on my 292 and had good success, I went to a 450 Holley vac sec and it was not a revelation. The bigger carb will require slightly bigger jets. a heavier pump cam and a black secondary spring , If you have a good engine = good vacuum use a 8.5 Power valve. However in saying that I run all this in my 450, I run a green pump cam! If you don't have the 600, then go the smaller 465 - 450 - 390 or 500 eddie.

gosh sounds like you have been around Yblocks . Yep have a B manifold. Freshly rebuilt motor. I think maybe have been told 600 is due to them being abit more common maybe

Ahh I see your a Kiwi.. So what car is this going in? You Kiwi's seem to be fond of the bigger 57 onwards tanks..
Ahh Ducati's I used to have a very nice 750 F1 and a very rare 24 horas [hours] 250 café racer.. All gone now *sniff..

Yes, the 600 is very common and affordable. I'm running a 500 cfm Holley 2300 series on my .030 272 and am very happy with it. Granted it's a 2v but it's more than enough for the engine.

The carb sellers have a chart that shows cubic inches, and expected maximum RPM, and that equals a CFM rating. If your car will be run a maximum RPM all the time the chart is wonderful. Most of our engines, whether a Y block, or a 5.0, run about 1200 to 2800 99.5% of the time. For us, a smaller CFM for low RPM throttle response is far more important.

yep kiwi, its in a 58 custom 300 (nz new car). Have a sidevalve 54 and a 38 pickup in the shed ... to many sheds. I bet the F1 was nice .. they are a nice bike

Thanks for this. yea We got a 2barrel holley on it now and its old and well worn and leaking etc, had 4 barrell manifold so keen to use it

Thanks for that, will get quote for this carb from our local auto parts shop. Sounds like a 600 might be alittle bit tricky to set up, rather a most so bolt on and go

Most parts houses still have manual choke conversion kits under $15 including the cable,I like the electric chokes run one wire, done deal.
