3X Spark Plugs

The Master Cylinder

Just curious, what makes Champion 3X spark plugs so expensive. It is not like the reproduction 3X plugs are rare. Even on Rock Auto, Champion 3X are $31.79 vs Champion W18 at $4.92.

I don't find they perform any better.

The construction is much more complicated and detailed. Look at them side by side.
We are lucky they are even available.

I realize that but $27.00 more? And yes they resemble the originals. I have a set that I install for shows. But for touring, no difference in performance. In fact my engine likes the W18's better.

It's just a limited market.
Huge cost difference between making and selling a few hundred versus making and selling thousands.A retired Cabletron exec once said,if you show us a verifiable need and a market,we will make product. We won't produce on,I bet lots of people would buy it.

I love 3X plugs. I think they're cool and have a ton of them...and keep buying more to restore.

That said........are they the best plugs for the Model A? Probably not. I'm sure there are others out there that probably function better. But...they don't look as cool. :)

I use the W-18s w/1/2" copper pipe caps on them, they look cool and the engine likes them.

Champion is the 1 that sets the expensive price I'm not even sure if champion still makes spark plugs in the United States it seems like almost all of them are foreign now I would bet money the 3X's are still made here or they have existing inventory that they're using and when it's gone they're probably not going to be available.

as others said it boils down to supply and demand.
but there are adapters out there that can be used to make moderns look original.
