3X Plugs

The plugs shown in Post #7 have the gap to the side of the center electrode. This will clear a flooded engine quicker than the ones with the gap at the end of the center electrode. With the different gasoline available in 1930, this was an important feature.

If you want to recondition original 3X or replacements to have their original black finish look I would coat them with a rust converter. Start out with wirewheeling or brushing off any surface rust and apply a rust converter not a rust remover. Rust-Oleum makes a spray reformer that will convert the rust to a flat black finish. There are many other rust converter products available which all basically work the same but can also be pricey. My guess is the original plugs were processed using some form of a furnace fired black oxide compound.

Sorry Ruth. I was looking for an exhaust pipe for my 57 Ford, and was checking out what they sold for my other cars, and thought I just saw a post about these.. Sorry

1957 Ford, One of my favorites (besides '55 Fords and Model As).

Gene F, did you know a '57 Ford Hearse was used to carry Marilyn Monroe from her house when she was found dead in 1962? Just a little morning trivia.
