The car I am working on currently had a terrible noise in first and some in second, but high gear was quiet..... when I pulled er down I found the U-Joint was stiff in one direction and it was hitting the bell and making that noise...but once it was spinning faster it centered and the noise went away. It also caused wear on the dirveline front bearing...(up and down play about 1/4")
