39 windshield regulator repair

The windshield regulator always worked badly on my 39 pickup and upon disassembly I discovered why. There were badly worn teeth on plate that engages on roll out shaft.Put it aside till I saw a listing for a replacement plate on E-bay of all places.Cleaned rust off all parts,tin-zinc plated and installed replacement part. After some fine tuning with a file it works great so someday it will be reinstalled after body work etc.Plate is made out aluminum but teeth are longer&tapered so hope it holds up.I do have 2 extra plates if someone needs one so let me know.I"m not sure what type of lube to use of mechanism ,looking for suggestions on that. I used that same piece on my coupe. I also had to finesse it a bit with a file but it worked great. I used Lubriplate on mine.

There are quite a few lubriplate formulas now but the one you need, 130 A, is an old standard. It's calcium based in order to take moisture as well as any made and is recommended for open gear systems. I'm pretty sure this formula was used by Fo Mo Co back in the day and is still available through Lubriplate distributors.

I never saw any replacement plates to install in my Pickup, so I welded new teeth on the gear with my MIG and cut new teeth with a die cutter. So far it seems to be working.

Anyone found a source for a replacement drive gear?

The fellow I got mine from was in Ohio and went by the name "chevyshop" on ebay. At least, I THINK that was his name.:D It was about $15, if I recall. Do a search for "1939 Ford" and it may pop up. Good luck.

no real updates to report.just finishing teardown of doors.looking for smaller projects till the bank account fills back up(that will never happen i'm sure).

I'm with you there. Just topped off the oil tank's and ther goes my radiator budget. It's all good @ the end of the day cause I got the old flathead smilin @ me:D

Gary,
This is probably to late for a querry but need a replacement regulator or the gear as shown in your second picture. Any info you can provide will be greatly appreciated. My gear has the first tooth broken off.
Thanks
