39 Windshield gasket, tips?

So my 39 Ford one ton has the flip out windshield with the center bar. The seal is the one piece that tucks into the small groove in the frame. I has the old seal removed but it looks like someone previously replace it and glued it in. There is a ton of remnants of old rubber in that tiny groove.

Any tips to get it out? How about a butane torch to burn the rubber out? Or, do I need to spend hours tediously pulling prying and cleaning this out?

Hours :)

To do this task properly, you MUST remove all traces of the old gasket, etc.
When you install the new gasket, use plenty of glass cleaner. It will allow the gasket to move easier and once dry, will not create bubbles that first time it gets wet.
Fit the four "corners" first and then, and only then, install the areas between the corners.
Sealer was not used originally and is not necessary now.

Harbor Freight sells kit of 4 small picks that work well for this type of job. Also good for removing O rings. I think they are less than $4 for the four pack.

Once you get all the old material out and are installing the new rubber gasket DO NOT use WD40 to lube it. Only use liquid windshield cleaner.
