I jut got a windshield frame for my car and my glass guy says to wd40 it and use a rubber hammer very "gently". I drilled the screws out. It hasn't moved yet. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance, Rod

Might have been a mistake to drill out the screws. The screws go into a 5/16 " square rod that fits tightly into each half of the windshield frame. The frame and these rods are rusted together. Soak in ATF and acetone 50 - 50 mixture for several days. after soaking apply heat and use a 1 X 4 block of wood to cushion the blows of a 3 # hammer against the frame halves. It takes a lot of soaking, Heating and whacking to get the rust to break free and the two halves to start moving. Lots of luck!

I had the same problem with mine. I had to drill out several set screws and retap them for new screws which I ordered online. I had to run a thin cut off saw along one corner where the connector plate that slide in the frame --about 2 inches into each half. I did this for only one half of the frame. This allowed me to pry the rusted pieces apart to free the two halves of the frame. I had the cut professionally rewelded by the chrome shop I used. He did a good job and the finished frame looks good. However the glass shop damaged the frame while attempting to set the new glass with original type "setting tape". The frame had to be replated. The second time the glass setter used a modern (vinyl type caulking) setting process. It turned out well but was quite a job.

Hey V12Bill & britman, thanks so much for the info. It really helps. I'll proceed with caution. Thanks again, Rod
